Collard Piano
APPEARANCE:
Beautiful antique. The year of manufacture is1826. Exquisite fretwork front
panel with integral ornate music stand.
The case is in excellent condition for its age. Stylish, robust legs. Aprox
size -51" high, 53" wide, 27.5" deep. This is a stunning piece
and quite possibly one of South-West England's oldest working upright pianos.
Definitely a piano of historic importance.
TYPE OF PIANO:
Straight strung overdamped. 6 and 3/4 octaves (lowest note is a C). 2 pedal.
Wood frame.
PLAYING CHARACTERISTICS:
The action works well (both hammers and dampers). The playing action is light
and quite responsive. The piano is in tune with itself (though a long way
below concert pitch). The sound is what you would expect from 200 year old
strings (can't guarantee that they are all the original strings, but they
certainly don't look new and the tuning pins are the original oblong pins).
This piano is primarily a piece of antique furniture, it is playable but would
require a restringing if you wanted to make it into a serious playing instrument.
